Elizabeth Baumgardner (Gelowitz), a long-time resident of Saskatoon, passed away in the early
morning on Tuesday June 6, 2017. She was born February 8, 1926 in Grayson, Sask to Wilhelm and
Anna Gelowitz, the sixth of seven children. After attending Teacher’s College (then referred to as
Normal School) during 1949 and 1950, she obtained her first teaching position at Smoky Hills School
seven miles north of Pierceland. On August 6, 1951 she married Kelly Baumgardner in Pierceland,
Sask where they lived until 1957. It was then that Elizabeth, along with her husband and two small
children (Darius and Timothy), moved to Saskatoon. Following this move two more children (Joan and
Patrick) were born thus completing their family. Elizabeth made further use of her teaching skills by
becoming involved with the Read Saskatoon Organization. Here she helped students develop their
English reading skills from July 1989 to October 1995. A long time member of St. Mary’s CWL she
was also active as a Eucharistic Minister and choir member. While at home she enjoyed gardening,
reading, dancing and taking a keen interest in her family. In later years she and Kelly enjoyed spending
winters in Arizona, ballroom dancing, and watching Bluejays baseball. She was predeceased by her
parents, all six of her siblings and her husband of 65 years, Kelly, who passed on June 21, 2016.
Elizabeth is survived by four children, their spouses and families including Darius, Tim (Cheryl, Josh,
Cory), Joan Luba (Larry), Patrick (Karin, Carmyn, Daniel, Lisa). Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to Westwood

Dear Patrick, Darry, Tim & Joan,
Daniel and Lisa and I would like to express our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mom. Even though we didn't see your Mom and Dad often, it was always nice to visit with them when they came to Calgary. I will always remember fondly how they shared so many rituals together throughout each day (tea time, an apple, etc.) They seemed like a very close couple - evidenced by their 65 years of marriage. What an inspiration. Much love to all of you, and may you be blessed as you fondly remember your Mom.
Carmyn (Daniel & Lisa)
