Born in Asquith, Saskatchewan on August 1, 1931, Don told many tales of growing up in "The Center of the British Commonwealth". The family moved to Saskatoon where Don eventually found work at the Robin Hood Flour Mill sweeping floors and washing windows. He retired after 47 years as the highly respected Head Miller then went on to a career as a milling consultant for flour mills around the world.

Don met Pat in the late 1940's and they quickly became inseparable. They were married at St. Mary's Church in 1951 and hosted their wedding reception at the Barry Hotel. His love of sports had him working as a baseball umpire for many years, coaching his kids' hockey and baseball teams, and bowling in several leagues. He strongly supported his grandchildren on the ice and the field, in the dance studios and stage performances. Family was of the utmost importance to Don and he and Pat rarely missed an important event in the lives of all their children and grandchildren.

Don and Pat were actively involved with St. Philip Neri Parish as well as other parishes as they moved throughout the city. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered regularly at pancake breakfasts and at the K of C Indoor Games.

Throughout his career and in retirement Don and Pat had the good fortune of travelling extensively for conventions and pleasure. They made the most of every trip and forged lasting friendships with many of the people they met. They also loved to spend time at the cabin at Wakaw Lake, fishing, building their own cabin and socializing with friends and family.

Don had a remarkable life with his dear wife Pat by his side every step of the way. He was a perfect example of what it means to be a husband, father, provider, and friend and respected member of his community.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mueller, Dr. Wong, Dr. Bosch, Dr. McKinny and all the wonderful staff at Samaritan Place, Trinity Manor and Westwinds Primary Health Centre for their excellent care these last few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don's name to Samaritan Place, St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society of Sask or the charity of your choice.
