Duane Muyres

Duane Valentine Joseph Muyres was born in Humboldt, SK on July 20, 1950, to Walter and Genevieve Muyres. He started elementary school in Rama, SK and completed high school in Saskatoon, SK. In 1971 Duane went to work underground in the mines in Thompson, MB, and later in the Yukon Territory. In 1973 he decided to return to school and graduated in 1975 from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with a diploma in survey technology. He worked in the Northwest Territories and throughout Alberta as a hand survey party chief.

He enjoyed his time in the North, being a lover of the outdoors, spending his spare time hunting and fishing and camping throughout the North, canoeing the Yukon River, and once camped on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. He also spent a winter at East Trout Lake in northern Saskatchewan, completing the cabin that he and his father started.

In 1976 Duane entered the University of Alberta, graduating on 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Urban Geography and Economics. In 1983 Duane went to Toronto's Osgoode Law School, graduating with a Bachelor of Law degree. He took his articles of clerkship in Sudbury. He later articled in Saskatoon and took the bar exams and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1987. In 1988 Duane entered the University of Saskatchewan and completed his Masters in business administration in 1989.

In 1985 Duane joined the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve as a Private and in 1986 took the Officers Commission as Second Lieutenant. He continued training and became Captain with 16 (Sask) Service Battalion.

In 1992 Duane purchased his pride and joy Harley Davidson motorcycle, and has been on road trips to the Southern USA and Sturgis for a bike rally.

Duane lived at Pike Lake where he took on the daunting task of making upgrades and additions to the cottage so he could live there year-round.

Duane worked for Canada Revenue Agency as a Tax Ruling Officer. He retired in 2010 at the age of 60.

Daune is survived by his sister, Deanna; brother, Val (Sandy); as well as two nieces, two nephews, five grand-nieces and five grand-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Parish (211 Ave O South, Saskatoon) on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
