It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fernando Alvoco on April 11th, 2025 at the age of 93. Fernando passed away peacefully with family.
Fernando is predeceased by his wife Maria of 63 years and his brother’s Tony Soto and Alvin Antunes.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Margaret (Todd), Linda (Gord), Lisa (Stu) and grandchildren Crystal, Brendan, Kyle, Kevin, Kelsie (Wade) and Cory. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren Jaxon and Nyiah.

Fernando was born in Barroca Portugal and immigrated to Canada at the age of 24 to work with the CNR. His wife Maria (Gracinda) and first born Margaret joined him 2 years later in Glidden SK. Later moving to Oliver BC, returning to Laura Sk. and finally Saskatoon.

Fernando embraced Canadian customs, learning the language, developing life-long friendships and becoming actively involved in whatever community he lived in. He was often working on the road but when home enjoyed socializing, curling, gardening and later in life bowling. When he settled in Saskatoon he drove the Front End Loader at the CN yard until he retired.

He was the first born of four brothers and at the age of 12 was left to help raise his siblings. He was also very proud to have sponsored their immigration to Canada.

Fernando retired at the age of 56 and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He and Maria enjoyed travelling, gardening, meeting with their coffee groups and bowling. He was always active throughout his life, keeping fit by running on the tread mill, and when he could no longer, walking every day and lifting his weights even into his 90s.

When Maria was diagnosed with Dementia, Fernando cared for her as long as he could. He continued to grow beautiful gardens and provided his family with an abundance of fresh vegetables. Fernando enjoyed gathering the family for meals and celebrations.

Fernando will be missed by all who knew him.

The celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Westwood Funeral Chapel.
