It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joyce Kostuchenko wish to announce her passing on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the age of 90 years. Joyce was so happy to have celebrated her 90
th
birthday with family and friends this past October.
Joyce was born on October 20, 1933, near Lorlie, Saskatchewan to William and Tillie Ulmer. She was the second oldest of seven children. Joyce was fiercely independent and very hard working. She had many occupations over the years, having worked at the Sanitorium, Modern Press and finally at the Eaton’s post office.
Joyce met and fell in love with Paul Kostuchenko in 1954, they enjoyed 48 years of marriage before Paul passed away in 2006.
In earlier days, both Joyce and Paul enjoyed bowling and playing darts, having won many trophies over the years. In later years, she enjoyed puzzling, playing bingo and watching curling. She loved family gatherings, especially if there was a card game to be played. Joyce was a life member of the Ladies Auxilliary at the Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club #38, receiving special recognition as a 60-year member. The friends that she made through the Club and at her previous residence (Clinkskill Manor) were treasured.
Joyce is survived by her siblings, Gladys (Clair), Ilene, Betty, Joan, Allan (Brenda), sister-in-law Joan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wish to thank the staff at Sunnyside Care Home for the care and compassion shown to her.
