We are saddened to announce the passing of Kenneth Arthur Wagner on June 10, 2024 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Mary (Pizuto) of 72 years of marriage, daughter Joanne Parkman, son Ron Wagner (Louise), daughter Karen Marcyzk (Roman), four grandchildren (Rachel, Roslyn, Bonnie, Lorie), and five great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents John and Martha Wagner and his brother Harvey Wagner. He also is survived by siblings Edgar Wagner, Carol Sawatsky, Marilyn Smith (Fred), Ida Bartley (Wayne), Dennis Wagner (Linda), and Gordon Wagner (Patricia).
Ken was born on a farm in the Hague district in 1931. After attending rural school, he moved to Saskatoon in 1949 where he worked a number of jobs including at the Dairy Pool where he drove the milk wagon. In 1957, he began a long career with the Saskatoon Police Service. He worked in many roles at the Police Service including in the traffic section where he rode a motorcycle, police driver training, and criminal investigations. He was appointed Deputy Chief in 1985, a position he held until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he worked for sixteen more years as a provincial coroner.
Ken liked to keep busy and volunteered for a number of organizations including the Saskatoon and District Safety Council, the Kiwanis Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a longtime member of the congregation at St. Mary’s Parish.
When he wasn’t working or volunteering, he could be found at the golf course or the curling rink. He also liked hunting and fishing. He was a very outgoing person and made friends easily. He was always ready with a joke.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ken’s memory to the Knights of Columbus. A funeral service for Ken will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (217 Lenore Drive).
