Maria Catharina Lockert (nee Benjamin) 1937-2015 The family of Maria Catharina Lockert (nee Benjamin) are saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, July 19, 2015, in Saskatoon, SK. at the age of 78 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Dan (Kim) Lockert, Bonita Mason, Bill Lockert, Heidi (Phil) Pasechnik, and Richard (Andrea) Lockert, and her beloved grandchildren Katie, Ken, Amanda, Madison, and Anna. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Edward Lockert, her infant children, Joanie and Allan, her parents Klaas and Geertje, her brothers Cor and Len and brothers in law Casimir, Mike, Tom, Larry, George, Johnny, Alvin, Wallace, Mel and Murray, and sisters in law Solange, Peggy and Betty. She is survived by her sisters Margriet (Sandy) Spademan, Astrid (Mark) Ballard and Olga Benjamin Evans, sisters-in law Kaye, Anne, Sr. Patricia, Elsie and Terry and brother in law Patrick, and her extended family and friends. Maria was born in Medemblik, Holland on March 18, 1937. She immigrated with her family to Prince Albert, SK. in 1954, and the Benjamin family moved to Hagen, SK. the next year. She married Edward on April 21, 1956, in Edmonton, AB., and they moved to Saskatoon, SK. in 1961. Maria dedicated herself as a wife and mother, and always had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She loved to read and to do crafts like knitting, needlepoint, and cross-stitch, and enjoyed sentimental shows and movies. Her soft heart meant that tears would flow readily, both when she has happy and sad. When his health declined, Mom faithfully visited Dad in the home every day without fail. Maria and Edward were committed to their faith, being long-time members of both St. Mary's and then St. Anne's Parishes. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital for their compassionate care. Maria faced her sudden illness positively and with dignity. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
