Mike Schroh

May 18, 1942 — November 29, 2024

Michael Martin Schroh was diagnosed with a couple of terminal illnesses this last year - he lived with them courageously and passed away on his own terms using the MAID program on November 29, 2024.

Mike was born in Kerrobert, SK, on May 18, 1942, where he lived on the family farm in the Luseland area with his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. At the age of 5, the family packed up their farm truck, horses and buggy, and moved to a farm in the Grandora, SK, area. Here he went to a few rural schools in the area and helped work on the family farm. The brothers were musically talented and had started a band, which he joined in 1954 and played the bass, acoustic, and electric guitars, as well as sang back-up vocals. For a couple of decades, the Schroh brothers were a very popular band and played all around Saskatchewan. When the brothers finally stopped playing together due to family commitments, Mike continued his musical career for 12 more years by joining another band called The Trimbletones where he made lifelong friendships with his band mates.

Mike married his sweetheart, Linda Crockett, on November 9, 1963, and started their own family on January 21, 1965, with the birth of their daughter, Kimberley, and their son, Lance, on February 6, 1972. Over the years, Mike and Linda built several houses on acreages along Highway 14 in the Grandora area where they raised their family. He took comfort and pride in saying he has had the same address / post office box for 61 years! Tragically, on August 13, 1995, their son, Lance, died in a vehicle accident. The only blessing was that Lance left them with a granddaughter, Casey, who was born on June 30, 1993. After almost 48 years of marriage, Mike also lost the love of his life, Linda, to cancer on February 26, 2011.

Mike took on many jobs over the years to build a life and provide for his family. In addition to working on his parents’ farm and playing in the Schroh brothers’ band, he started his first job at McLeod’s Home Hardware. He also worked on the CP Rail with his father and brother, John; was a grader operator for the RM of Vanscoy; went to school for and became a well-known auctioneer; ran his own farm with cattle, horses, pigs, and chickens, as well as growing crops; and, most notably, along with Linda, built a popular flower shop called Schroh Flowers & Gifts, and two successful plumbing hardware businesses called Schroh Distributors and Kallam’s Distributing, from which they retired comfortably in 2007.

Surviving are his daughter, Kimberley; special niece, Cindy (Schroh) Kroeger; granddaughter, Casey Solowan; sisters, Jeanette Hedman and Marcy Zaitsoff; sister-in-law, Grace Schroh; brother-in-law, Skip Crockett, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Miranda Schroh; wife, Linda; son, Lance; brothers, Richard, Dan, Delbert, and John Schroh; sister, Rita Crockett; brothers-in-law, Merle Crockett, Bill Zaitsoff, and Raymond Hedman; sisters-in-law, Gloria, Carla and Irene Schroh; niece, Debbie Crockett; great-nephews, Michael Crockett and Easton Spence; as well as his very dear friend, Deryl Miller.

Mike has requested to be cremated with no funeral service and to be buried with his family in the Asquith cemetery at a later date. He asks to remember the good times and give him a cheers with ‘one for the ditch’ when you think of him. If you wish to monetarily express your condolences, please consider giving a small stipend in his name to the Asquith Cemetery for its care and upkeep. Cremation and burial arrangements will be made by Mike’s niece, Cindy, and Westwood Funeral Chapel.
