Michael "Mike" (Milan) Zivkovich

It's with profound heartache that the Zivkovich family announces the passing of our Dad (Pops), Gido, and Great Gido. Dad passed away peacefully at the infinite age of 88 with his family by his side on March 19th, 2025 at 7:25 am at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.

Mike was born February 20th, 1937 in Dubrava, Donje Pazarište, Yugoslavia ( Croatia) to Milan and Marica Zivkovič. Although given only 24 hours to live, against all odds he not only survived but went on to create a legacy.

Mike and his 2 siblings Mica (Emily) and Pepa (Joyce) grew up on the family farm, after their dads passing, Mike at the young age of 10 with only a grade 4 education became the man of the family.

November 1st, 1957 Mike had made his decision to escape the war in Yugoslavia under the Tito government. On March 21st, 1958 in Villach, Austria he applied for Canadian Immigration Card and got approved on July 23rd,1958. Mike boarded the Acadia Ship to Quebec, Canada and arrived on Canadian soil August 8th,1958. Mike received his Certificate of Canadian Citizenship November 6th, 2019. On August 12th, 1958 Mike arrived in Saskatoon, SK. by train making his way to Davidson, SK. for his 1st job working at a tractor company. Afterwards he moved to Willkie, Sk. to become a butcher where they named him "Bill" for a short time. Mike moved one last time to Saskatoon, SK. to start work in construction.

On January 1st, 1962 Mike met the love of his life Natalie Marchuk at a New Years Eve dance, and by June 16th they were happily married.

On December 20th, 1963 they welcomed their first born son Gregory, January 14th, 1971 welcomed their 2nd son Michael, and on September 25th, 1977 a baby girl Joyce.

Together they opened 3 Zivkovich Special Care Homes lasting over 40 years of service, all while Mike still working for Remai Construction til retirement in 1984.

Mike is predeceased by his devoted wife Natalie of 53 years in 2016.

Mike is survived by his loving sons Gregory, Michael, (Angela), daughter Joyce, grandson Tristin, granddaughter Kennedy, great grandson Lennox, as well as brother in-law Mike Marchuk of Saskatoon, Sk., his niece Karmen, (Darko) Banič of Croatia and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special heartfelt THANK YOU to the M.D.Ambulance Paramedics, Doctors, Nurses, and Care Aides (Emergency & 5th floor medicine) at St.Paul's Hospital for their compassion and professionalism during our dads 32 days of care.

The Prayer Service will be held on March 27th, 2025 at 7:00 pm at Westwood Funeral Home (1402 20th street West Saskatoon, SK.) and the Funeral Service will be celebrated on March 28th at 10:00 am at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St George (210 Ave M South Saskatoon, SK.)

Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, return to church for lunch.

Pallbearers are Michael Zivkovich (Son), Tristin Zivkovich (grandson), Kennedy Zivkovich (granddaughter), Doug Marchuk (nephew), Cliff Marchuk (nephew), and Calvin Marchuk (nephew).

Cross-bearers Joyce Zivkovich (daughter) & Lennox Zivkovich (great grandson)

Donations maybe made to Diabetes Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart And Stroke Foundation, or Saskatoon Kidney Foundation.
