Michele Santoro

Michele Santoro February 14, 1928 – January 2, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, at the age of 88. Michele, lovingly known as Mike, was born in Castelmezzano, Italy in 1928. In June, 1950 he married his childhood sweetheart Maria Cafferella and they started their family. Before immigrating to Canada, Mike worked in Belgium. Mike and his family settled in Saskatoon in 1960, a place he and Maria called home. Anyone who knew Mike knew that he loved his family, gardening, pets and making homemade wine. Mike enjoyed sharing a laugh and playing his accordion for company. He was known for opening up his home and his dinner table to friends, family and the neighborhood children. His loving and generous nature will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace with his great love Maria. Mike is survived by his children Frank (Sharon) and Rosa (Tom); his grandchildren Dina (Michael), Vanessa (Tim), Maria (Scott), Sean (Breanna), Francesca and Alessandro; and his great-grandchildren Madyson, Mason, Enzo, Tegan and Emily. Mike is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Maria; his infant daughter Eleonora; his parents Francesco and Eleonora (Beneventi) Santoro; his brother Domenico Santoro and sisters Maria Donata Lorenzo and Maria Lucia Mazza. A special thank you goes out to the nurses and staff at Bethany Long Term Care Facility in Calgary for all of the care and comfort that they provided for our Mike during his time there.
