Obituary of Mary Pitchko

PITCHKO, Mary
May 29, 1924 – January 20, 2020
With great sadness, we announce that our sweet loving Baba passed away peacefully with her family by her side at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Saskatoon on January 20th, 2020 at the age of 95.
She was born in St. Julien, where she was raised on a farm and lived for many years before moving to Saskatoon.  Baba met our Gido – Andrew Pitchko, fell in love and were married on September 8th, 1945.  They were blessed with two beautiful daughters - Vi (Wayne) Danylchuk and Sharon (Brian) Banman, two granddaughters – Kirstin (Rod) Williamson and Breanne (Curtis) Koehler.  Her most cherished pride and joy were her great-grandchildren – Teagan, Mackenzie, Shayne, Alexas, MacGuire and Codey.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Her greatest love was family.  Baba was one of the humblest people in our lives with the most loving and giving heart.  Always worrying about others and putting everyone else first and ahead of her own needs.  She was beyond strong, compassionate, giving, genuine, stubborn and independent and made us all who we are today.
Baba taught us so much about life that we will carry with us and she will live on in our hearts forever and always.
She enjoyed the simple things in life – birds chirping, the sound of the wind, hot coffee, visits with friends and family, playing cards, crossword puzzles, listening to music, watching hockey or baseball, and so much more.
Baba was wise, quick-witted, social, fun-loving, sweet and quite simply one-of-a-kind!
Her wings were ready but our hearts were not but knowing that she was at peace and lived a long fulfilling life brings us a sense of peace also.  So, go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep, your love in our hearts we’ll eternally keep.
Until we meet again Baba, rest peacefully with Gido oo-xx and watch over us always.  We will also always remember her advice – “Don’t ever get old.  It’s no fun being old.”
Thank you for being amazing and beautiful and for all the wonderful memories.
At her request, a private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Ann's Nursing Home would be greatly appreciated for the incredible loving care that all staff took of our Baba over her three years there.
