Obituary of Ruby Parkinson

Ruby Parkinson (Jamison), age 94, passed away on June 20, 2017 at Oliver Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband Doug, her parents Bill and Lillian, her sister Audrey and brothers Fred and Bob. Mom was raised in the Wyatt School district. She went to Normal School in Saskatoon at age 16 to become a teacher. Due to a shortage of teachers, she graduated after one year. She taught at Nipawin, Watrous, Borden, Baljennie, Traynor and Clearwater (B.C.). Mom took some time off to raise us. She taught at Westmount School for 17 years. During her time at Westmount, she worked hard to earn her teaching degree. Mom’s teaching career ended after being in a serious car accident. Mom had a strong faith in God. She was involved in various activities at St. Thomas Wesley United Church-teaching Sunday School, CGIT, UCW, Presbytery, ICS and anything else involving helping others. She volunteered at Oliver Lodge and the Food Bank for several years. Mom loved to travel anywhere she had the opportunity to go. She was a support to several international students. She had a soft heart for any organization with a worthwhile cause, and there were a lot of them

Funeral

Her family, daughter Donna, son Stuart (Cathy), grandchildren; Daniel (Carla), Rachel (Mark) and Robert, great grandchildren; Lily, Charlie, Ruby and Theodore, will be celebrating her life at St. Thomas Wesley United Church (Ave. H and 20th St) on June 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 23, at Westwood Funeral Chapel (1402 20th St. West) from 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations to St. Thomas Wesley United Church, World Vision, or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
