The family of Olga Michalenko (nee Uhryn) pays tribute to her 98 years of living in many significant roles: wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, Hudson’s Bay Store employee, United Church Circle member and faithful neighbour. Depending on where her immediate family resided in the U.S.A., the 1000 to 2000 mile distance between them and Saskatoon was bridged with telephone calls, letters, visits 2 to 4 times a year and most recently Zoom calls. In spite of distance, she was never far in thought or prayer.

The third child of Ukrainian immigrants, Olga grew up in Wakaw, Saskatchewan and moved to Saskatoon as a young adult. She married William Michalenko in 1943, just before he was commissioned overseas to join the ranks of the Canadian Army during World War II.

Olga’s most recent senior years were spent at Villa Royale, followed by residence at Oliver Lodge. The immediate family, Darlene and Bob Braun, Cara, Reid, Charlie, Caden and Carynne Thorpe, Carli, Bob, Carsyn and Caleb Kody, thank the staff at both locations, our lifelong Saskatoon friends, and cousins, for caring for Mum and facilitating our expressions of love through the miles of our distance. A graveside interment service and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing to attend can meet at the Cemetery entrance just off 33rd St. E at 10:45 a.m. to follow the procession to the graveside.
