Obituary of George Martyniuk

George (Yurei) Martyniuk January 2, 1925 – May 13, 2016 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of George Martyniuk at the age of 91. George emigrated to Canada with his wife and daughter in 1950. He joined CP Rail in 1952 and worked in many small towns in Saskatchewan. In 1961 the Martyniuk family moved to Saskatoon where George continued to work for CP until his retirement in 1984. George was an active member of the Ukrainian community in Saskatoon and served many years on the Board of Directors of St. George’s Senior Citizens Club. After retiring, he had more time to enjoy planting and working in his garden. He also taught himself to make the best pyrohy in town and, until now, continued to make holubtsi and borsch as well. He was always busy with something and truly enjoyed life, his friends, and his family. George was predeceased by his wife Stella, in 2003 and his son,John in 2015. He is survived by two children, Anne Marie (Ken) and Mike; two grandchildren, Tracey and Stephanie; and three great grandchildren, Keeley, Justin, and Brady.

Funeral

Vigil of Prayer will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, May 19, 2016 and the Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 20, 2016. Both services will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral , 210 Ave M South. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery
