Obituary of Jim Morgan

James Douglas Morgan
February 22, 1957 - March 19, 2024

Jim passed away at the age of 67 in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital with family at his side.

Jim was the beloved brother of Cynthia (Bruce) Weir of Kanata, Ontario, Tom Morgan and Diane Ewert both of Saskatoon. Jim will be extremely missed by his nieces Melanie (Mike) Hnidy, Michelle Morgan (Christopher Kasian), Elizabeth Weir, Allison Weir, Morgan Ewert (Ryan Frennette) and nephew Chris Erker (Jessica Lantain) and by his nine great nieces and nephews. Jim will also be lovingly remembered by his aunties, uncle, and numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Douglas and Mona Morgan, his sister Lee Anne Erker, and brother-in-law Glen Ewert.

Besides being a dedicated son and loving family member, Jim was a good and loyal friend to many, he genuinely cared for others. For a quiet man, he was surprisingly good at meeting people and making friends. He was a professional driver for many years and received many cards and gifts from regular customers whom he treated with respect and kindness.

Jim was also an animal lover. He always treated his dogs with love and a gentleness which was a blessing especially for those he rescued.

Jim had a keen interest in world affairs and experiencing other cultures. This lead to him making several trips to Mexico. Jim was also a great cook and combined these interests by creating dishes from other country’s traditions. He even got his mother eating curries for the first time in her 90s. He made everything taste so good. Even his homemade fish and chips tasted better than any we had eaten before.

Because he was humble and quiet, most folks will not know that Jim was also a wonderful artist and an excellent gardener. We mourn that he did not get his last wish for one more summer to grow and taste his own vegetables.

The family would like to thank the staff from the PCU for their tender care of Jim and of us in Jim’s final hours. And a special thank you to Cam and Melinda Brown for their care and support in Jim’s last days.

There will be a scattering of Jim’s ashes on August 4th followed by a gathering in Jim’s back yard. More details to follow closer to the date.
