Obituary of Catherine Vogelgesang

Catherine Vogelgesang born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at the age of 89 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Saskatoon.

Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her husband Leo of 65 years, children Fred, Mike and Carolyn (Wayne) and grandchildren Alexander, Jennifer (Kyle), Christopher (Erin) and Benjamin.

Catherine was the youngest child of Michael and Katherine (Stoker) Dopko. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Sam, Steve, John and sisters Anne, Eva and Denise.

Catherine and Leo were married on July 5,1958 and enjoyed 65 years together which they were fortunate enough to celebrate together in their home which they built together over 61 years ago.

As a young girl she lost her hearing, bringing many challenges to her life, but she persevered.  She raised three children and was blessed with four grandchildren.

She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church and was a member of the CWL and the senior choir. She also kept physically active by being a member of a bowling league in Saskatoon for many years. 

Catherine was a survivor of breast cancer and lived her later years with Parkinson’s disease. This slowed her down substantially which made activities of daily living difficult. Leo was always by her side, encouraging and taking good care of her up until the last five months when his health began to suffer.

We are forever grateful for the care and compassion she received at St. Joseph’s Home during her final months and days of her life.

When someone you love becomes a memory the memory becomes a treasure. Catherine, a wife, mother, and grandmother will forever be a treasure in our memories.

Funeral Prayers of the Faithful will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. with the Funeral Mass on Wednesday December 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Both services are being held at St. Mary’s Parish - 211 Ave O South Saskatoon.
